WHO WE ARE

Our BirthRoom was created by and for parents looking to have a safe, confident, and empowering birth experience.

We believe that every parent deserves a birth experience where they feel informed, supported, and in control. Our classes are designed for first-time parents and those healing from past birth trauma, providing the knowledge and tools to navigate labor with confidence.

We focus on natural childbirth, informed advocacy, and strong partner support so that you can approach birth feeling prepared—not just for the process, but for the decisions along the way.

Birth isn’t just about the moment—it’s about the journey. Let’s make yours an empowered one.

THAT FEELING YOU’RE FEELiNG? WE’VE BEEN THERE.

Imagine you’re 32 weeks pregnant and just finished touring the hospital where you plan to give birth. You walked in excited and curious, only to leave feeling uneasy and anxious. By the time you get home, you can’t get over the higher risk you might be taking by choosing a hospital birth—the higher likelihood of induction, unnecessary intervention, and c-section. So, you get home and begin researching alternative ways to have your baby.

That was me during my first pregnancy.

I knew the health gap for Black moms was real—inadequate prenatal care, higher rates of c-section, preterm labor, and low birth weight. My husband, Stephen, a Family Medicine resident at the time, saw these inequities firsthand. But I wondered—was I strong enough for a natural birth? And how would I handle people thinking I was crazy for considering it outside of a hospital?

iT’S YOUR PREGNANCY. OF COURSE iT’S OKAY TO LOOK FOR DiFFERENT OPTiONS.

I’ve seen birth from both sides—the clinical and the personal. As a Physician Associate, I witnessed hospital deliveries, from smooth, joyful births to intense c-sections and difficult recoveries. I knew I wanted to explore a different path when I became pregnant. I wanted to try something different.

That led me deep into research, where I discovered Dr. Robert Bradley’s natural childbirth approach. The evidence was clear, and the philosophy resonated. My husband, Stephen, and I were personally trained in The Bradley Method by Susan McCutcheon—one of Dr. Bradley’s direct students and the author of Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way.

Learning about physiologic birth changed everything for us. We combined our medical backgrounds with our personal birth experiences to create Our BirthRoom, a space dedicated to helping parents feel informed, confident, and supported in their birth choices.

Our BirthRoom is a testament to the passion that blossomed from our transformative encounters with natural birth and continues to thrive through our cherished students.

Our passion for this work has only grown stronger through the families we’ve served. To date, our students have had cesarean rates far below the national average, and every full-term baby has been born at a healthy birth weight. We’ve also seen only one case of preeclampsia—an outcome that speaks to the power of education, preparation, and informed decision-making. Many of our students have gone on to use the same lessons for subsequent pregnancies, approaching each birth with even more confidence.

For us, choosing a natural birth was the best decision we ever made—four times over. And now, nothing brings us more joy than guiding families through their own birth journeys, ensuring they feel empowered, prepared, and truly heard.
